The Roland R-8 (often referred to as the R-8 Mk1) is a digital PCM drum machine released in 1989 that became a standard in early 1990s studios. It features 16 velocity-sensitive pads, 32 voices of polyphony, and a four-part multitimbral architecture, allowing for complex, layered rhythmic programming.
