Audient's Class-A console mic pre gives you the sonic quality of products costing three or four times the price, capturing detail and excitement with a hint of analogue colouration. Designed by David Dearden, it's used by thousands of professional studios around the world.

Why this unit rather than another eight-channel box

Variable input impedance across three settings - Lo at 220Ω, Med at 1k2Ω and Hi at 2k8Ω lets you match the preamp to the microphone rather than accepting whatever the box gives you. It makes a real, audible difference on ribbons in particular, and it's a genuine tonal tool rather than a spec-sheet feature.

A fully balanced insert loop on each of the eight channels, via 25-way D connectors, allows compressors or other outboard to be patched in during tracking, and equally lets you bring the outputs of other preamps directly into the ASP880's converters. That second use is worth dwelling on: if you have a favourite pair of preamps without digital output, this becomes their converter.
