The Roland JUPITER-6, a 6-voice, 12-VCO polyphonic analog synthesizer, was first released in 1983. While it is often viewed as a budget version of Rolandfs flagship model at the time, the gJUPITER-8,h it actually served as the de facto successor, incorporating numerous new features not found in the top-of-the-line JUPITER-8?such as early support for the MIDI standard released in 1981?and offered outstanding value for the price.Equipped with VCOs featuring sync and cross-modulation, as well as a VCF with three modes, its resonance characteristics embody the very essence of classic Roland analog synthesizers. Its solid sound makes it interesting to play without applying any effects. While the layout of the various controls follows that of the JUPITER-8, the color scheme of the JUPITER-6fs chassis is unified in cool tones, giving it a sleek impression in contrast to the warm tones of the JUPITER-8. Furthermore, the rear panel features a clean design thanks to the heat sink positioned above the control panel; combined with the slim chassis, this creates a sophisticated look that stands out brilliantly on stage. In the past, it was reportedly favored by British New Wave, progressive rock, and synth-pop artists such as The Human League, King Crimson, The Chemical Brothers, and the Pet Shop Boys.
