Up for sale is a really remarkable Jose Ramirez R2 from 1996. In its 30 years, it has opened up and aged wonderfully. It has a loud, vibrant voice that commands your attention. Christopher Parkening once remarked when looking for his Ramirez that he sought out one with good bass because Ramirez’s are known for great trebles already. He’d certainly approve of this one. It has ample bass on tap that is tight and warm, while retaining excellent string separation. It’s been taken great care of. There’s a few dings and playwear, but honestly much less than I’d expect from even a well maintained 30 year old guitar. There’s an almost unnoticeable top crack behind the bridge that’s been expertly repaired. You’d have to look very close to see it. A crack on the treble side running along the fingerboard extension that’s VERY common on these has also been repaired and cleared. There’s one on the bass side that appears to be finish-only and is stable. Again, very common on these models. Another thing that’s extremely common on these R-Series is finish cloudiness and while this one has some that’s hard to get to show up in photos, it’s minimal and better than 99% of these that you’ll see. It’s had the frets polished, fingerboard oiled and strung with brand new Savarez Corum Alliance strings in Normal Tension (highly recommended for these vs high tension). The action is perfect and set to factory specs. It’s plays wonderfully. It’s literally ready to go the moment you get it. It comes with a very nice Road Runner case. Even though these are “student” guitars, this is one of the better classicals I’ve ever played in any price range. Its tone, projection, and playability are top tier. I have a vintage Contreras 1A and I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to take this Ramirez in its place. It’s that good. I’ve played some concert-grade guitars that don’t come close to this one. A really remarkable instrument that is ready to play as soon as you open the case.
