About this listing
Immaculate 1964 all original Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman made in Brooklyn, NY at the esteemed and long defunct Gretsch factory - yes, the same place that made George Harrison’s Gretsche‘s, and yes he had one of this exact model. This guitar has been very gently played over the last 60+ years - hard to find any signs of heavy use - there’s no visible fret-wear and no big scratches or marks on it (there’s nothing noticeable - I can find one small surface scratch on back of neck and one small mark on top of body but you would have to look to find them!). Even the case and the original brochures are in great shape. It plays beautifully, medium C neck, low action, very resonant. Trem very responsive. Electronics all perfect. Dampener mechanism perfect. Shocking but all the binding is also in really great shape, absolutely no binding rot! There’s some minor tarnishing of the gold hardware on the pickups, tuners and trem - but it still looks gold and just adds to the vintage vibe. The black dampeners show some wear but still fully functional. There’s a filled plug hole for a strap button on back of neck heel but it’s professionally filled and hardly noticeable. There is a small crack in the pickguard near the screw. The back pad is perfect on the outside but has a tear in the fabric on the imside which I think would easily to sew back up (See pic). The back pad has also caused a reaction with the body finish underneath in a few areas (see pic) - not noticeable when pad is on and I would bet you can buffer it out of the finish (but I’m not an expert). Considering overall shape of guitar I look as these as minor. If you’re looking for a beautiful old Gretsch in amazing shape that’s been sitting around in its case for decades - this is it. I honestly don’t know whether to look at it or play it every time i pass it. considering the Japanese re-issues are almost $3k, this is a steal. I’ll ship but would prefer local pickup …. Will pack carefully and insure. Thanks for looking - hit me up with any questions
