About this listing
For years, the Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin was only available in Cognac Burst, but for 2025 Godin released a killer Vintage Burst finish. The Kingpin II mixes old-school archtop style with modern playability, solid electronics, and serious value. Built from Canadian Cherry, it’s bright, lively, and way more versatile than your average jazz box. This is a Godin "SF" Factory Second guitar, which means a small cosmetic blemish was found during inspection (see photo). Most flaws are tough to spot unless you’re really looking. SF guitars still carry the full factory warranty, and you save a little money. Photos are of the actual guitar.

Cherry is sustainable, locally sourced, and something Godin has dialed in over the years. It may not be a traditional tonewood, but it works beautifully in acoustic and hollow-body guitars, and it looks great under the Vintage Burst finish.
Tone-wise, Cherry brings strong volume, solid bass, clear highs, and nice sustain. Tonally it’s similar to maple, but with a little more lows, and more top end complexity. The neck pickup sounds warm and full without getting muddy, while the middle position is the sweet spot—punchy, jangly, and perfect for rockabilly. The bridge pickup has plenty of bite and when pushed delivers that thick, gritty P90 grind. Since the body is fully hollow, you can even coax some feedback when you want it. It’s not built for shredding, but the neck feels comfortable and plays easily up high. It ships with 12s, though 11s will loosen it up if that’s more your speed. For jazz, flatwound 11s or 12s are a great fit.
Bottom line: this is a fun, lively guitar with more range than its vintage looks suggest. It handles jazz and mellow stuff with ease, but the P90s also give it enough bite for roots rock and rockabilly. At this price, the Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin is tough to beat.
