About this listing
Gibson L5 Advanced Model 1937s # 9369Book-matched tiger flamedOriginal lacquered caseCrafted of the most extravagantly bookmatched tiger flame maple throughout, this guitar breathtaking. With SN#93639, this stunning instrument is dated in Spann's Guide as having shipped in mid-1937. Maintained in superb condition, the instrument retains all its original hardware and finish, with no cracks, pick, buckle, or fingerboard wear. With its deeply resonant 17" body this 'Advanced Model' was built for just over 4 years, and remains the only X-braced L-5 version ever made. The engraved gold trapeze tailpiece is seen only in '36 and '37, and this guitar would have been one of the last built with the small f-holes and gold Grover Sta-Tite 'butterbean' tuners of the '20's.The flat-carved X-braced soundboard is uniquely rich and woody, with exceptional sustain and bass response: ideal for chord melody, solos, and vocal accompaniment. The label indicates it is fitted with the optional taller bridge, for increased projection and volume. Smooth low action over fine pro frets, comfy gentle C neck profile with solid ebony fingerboard. The back centerseam has been soundly resealed at top and bottom, and the deep Cremona finish shows only some light thumbwear and a few superficial nicks for its long career. Finally, this handsome guitar is supplied with its original G&G lacquered aircraft tweed case, with burgundy plush lining, which still contains an original silk strap cord and sales receipt from Rose Music Mineapolis
