What makes this bass specialFender Jazz Bass Deluxe 5-String: A professional-level J-style bass with the traditional Jazz Bass body and two Jazz Bass pickups, but designed around active electronics and five-string range. John East J-Retro preamp: This is a major electronics upgrade. The J-Retro is an active onboard preamp/EQ designed specifically for Jazz Bass-style instruments, giving the player much more control over bass, mids, treble and overall output. It can provide a very powerful, modern sound while retaining the characteristic Jazz Bass character. Aguilar pickups: Aguilar makes several five-string Jazz-style replacement sets, including its AG 5J-HC hum-cancelling pickups. These use Alnico V magnets and are designed to provide a warm, punchy 1960s-style Jazz Bass sound without the typical 60-cycle hum. Five strings: The added low-B string gives considerably more range than a standard four-string Jazz Bass, making it particularly useful for modern rock, metal, gospel, funk, jazz and studio work.
