About this listing
This Doepfer MAQ 16/3 is one of the first models made in the 1990s, like the ones used by Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze, the Human League & Jean-Michel Jarre. It as a lot of great features, looks good with any synth or modular system and is an original black model. I haven't used it in a few years but it was kept and used in a smoke free, pet free, controlled environment. I tested it and have a video, just have to figure how to get ir on Reverb. It's in great shape and may have some history with it as it seems to have been used, purchased or serviced in Paris France by "Angel Freddy", an underground source for electronic music equipment in the 1990s and it still has the sticker to show. That sticker is a cool piece of French electronic music history !It has a MIDI output and input and can easily interface to synths or if you are modular, by using your MIDI to CV converter or a Doepfer MCV4 as I did. Ask any questions you may have. Comes with an A/C power adapter. Here is the manufacturer's specs (AI assisted):The original 1990s early black version of the Doepfer MAQ 16/3—designed in collaboration with Florian Schneider of Kraftwerk and originally released in July 1993:🎛️ Hardware & Interface• Form Factor: 19-inch rack-mountable metal chassis, 4U height, roughly 4 inches (110 mm) deep.• Front Panel Aesthetic: Matte black painted finish.• Controls: 48 rotary potentiometers (3 rows of 16 dials), each paired with an individual red LED indicator.• Menu Interface: 8 small menu push-buttons (Event, Channel, First/Last Step, Prescale/Time, Mode, Single Step, Preset, and Start/Stop).• Data Entry: Equipped with a standard data potentiometer (knob) for parameter changes, rather than the optical alpha-dial/rotary encoder used in later units.• Display: Large 3-digit, 7-segment red LED display showing BPM and numerical data values.💻 Inputs, Outputs & Sync• MIDI Connections: 1 x MIDI In, 1 x MIDI Out on the rear panel.• CV / Gate Sockets: None standard, requires an external MIDI to CV/Gate converter.• Synchronization: Supports internal clock (transmitting MIDI Start/Stop/Clock from 50–254 BPM) or acts as a slave to an external MIDI clock signal.🎚️ Sequencer Architecture & Software (V1.xx - V2.04)• Memory Storage: 4 to 8 non-volatile performance presets (compared to 30 slots on later v3 firmware upgrades). Full performance data can be backed up via MIDI System Exclusive (SysEx) dumps.• Assignable MIDI Events: Independent assignment per row for generating Notes (with velocity), Polyphonic Pressure, Aftertouch, Pitchbend, Program Changes, and MIDI Controller Data 0–31.• Playback Variations: Each row operates with independent step lengths (1 to 16 steps), playback direction (Forward, Backward, Pendulum, Random), and clock scaling.• Inter-Row Modulation: Early code supports serial operation (running rows 1, 2, and 3 sequentially for a 48-step sequence) and row interaction features (e.g., Row 2 controlling the velocity or step lengths of Row 1).
