A&L is one of Godin’s younger acoustic brands, built with the attention to detail we’ve come to expect from our Canadian friends. They also put real focus on environmental stewardship, using 95% Canadian wood and no clear cutting by reclaiming wood from fallen giants.
A&L also uses quality construction techniques for great tone, long life, and easy playability, including quarter-sawn spruce bracing, a compound curved top, reverse-grain kerfed headstock, maple dowel fortified heel, and Graph Tech nut, bridge pins, and compensated saddle.
The Roadhouse has the signature A&L look—retro, pleasingly hip, and full of character. They really go all out on the aesthetic, pairing rustic finishes with vintage open-gear tuners and distinctive pickguards. The solid pressure-tested Sitka spruce top delivers the bright, snappy response players expect, while the 3-part wild cherry laminate back and sides add a little more warmth and complexity than maple.Like most parlor guitars, the Roadhouse trades deep bass for quick response and a strong midrange voice, making it a great songwriting companion for strummers and pickers alike. The small body responds quickly to your touch, giving it a spunky attack and plenty of clarity, even if it won’t match a dreadnought for sheer volume. The Q-Discrete electronics are subtle and effective. A&L skipped the usual cut-out panel in favor of a clean two-knob layout with volume and active tone boost/cut. As primarily electric players, we appreciate the simplicity—and of course the unmistakable “Lennon look.” Plugged into our H&K ERA-1, it’s another reminder of how far acoustic-electric systems have come, even at this price.
The Roadhouse looks, sounds, and feels broken in right from the start. Even at this price point, A&L guitars have real character and suit both beginners and more experienced players. As a daily player, songwriting companion, or coffeehouse workhorse, the Roadhouse is a satisfying and attractive instrument. We are an authorized Godin/A&L dealer, and this is a new guitar with all tags, tools, paperwork, and certificates.
