The Acme Audio Motown WB-3 is a classic recreation of the original Motown direct box which was used in about every Motown recording session throughout the 1960′s-70′s. If you are playing or recording any type of throwback style (such as funk or soul), and looking for that distinct colorful distortion, then the Motown WB-3 needs to be a part of your chain.
Let's face it, if it's good enough for Jake and Sam Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet, and good enough for all of us (and it is). The Acme Motown WB-3 is clearly a killer DI. How did Acme Audio recreate this recognizable sound? The Motown WB-3 features transformers that were painstakingly reproduced to exact standards of the ones used in the original version of this direct box. Acme Audio tracked down the original manufacturer of those transformer, and after 35 years enlisted them to start making them again. As a result, the Motown WB-3 is built to the exact specs with the same materials as the original, and exhibits the same audio character that sets it apart from all similar devices.
There have been some upgrades to the original direct box. Acme Audio has improved the variable attenuation for high level input devises, and the case is now made from durable steel (instead of aluminum). These units are hand-crafted in Detroit with care and passion.
