Video: Tama Iron Cobra & Speed Cobra Double Pedals

Bass drum pedals are one of the most personal parts of a drummer’s setup. This collection of hinges, bearings and cams connects the player to the instrument and provides crucial feel and feedback.

For 2016, Tama has rolled out some major upgrades to its Iron Cobra line of pedals, which have been an industry standard since their introduction in the '90s and are favored by the metal drumming community.

Both the standard Iron Cobra and longboard Speed Cobra now feature lightweight cam construction, a Teflon heel plate bearing, swivel springs and Speedo-Ring rocker cams. All of these upgrades translate to a smoother feel and less wasted motion; the spring tension remains constant throughout the stroke, and reduced friction means you’re not fighting your way up to speed. In addition, the standard Iron Cobra’s footboard has been slightly lengthened, providing a bit more real estate for those with larger feet.

These pedals truly excel at what they do, and with this recent refresh it’s no longer a case of which packs more value. With both versions now sporting an almost identical set of features, the user’s preference of footboard length should be the deciding factor in choosing between the two.
