It seems every time we turn around these days there's another new effects pedal intended to make your guitar sound like a synth. So, we thought, what if we used these guitar synth pedals with an actual synthesizer? It would probably sound very bad, hilariously bad.
Well, even the fools are wise once in a while. It turns out that the combination of a synth with guitar synth pedals sounds fantastic. They could even be an inexpensive way to greatly expand the sonic range of your keyboard, instead of buying a more powerful (and expensive) workstation. Don't believe us? Watch the full video above.
Our trusted purveyor of synth sounds, William Kurk, runs a Korg Minilogue through six different breeds of keys-emulating and synthy stompboxes: the Electro-Harmonix C9 Organ Machine, MEL9, Key9, and Guitar Mono Synth, along with the Keeley Synth 1 and Seymour Duncan Fooz Analog Fuzz Synth. (He also swaps in a Roland Ax-1 Keytar Controller to strike a true shredder's pose.)
