Video: Benson Amps Releases the Stonk Box

Benson Amps has just released the new Stonk Box—a germanium transistor-based fuzz utilizing the brand's proprietary Automatic Thermal Bias technology, which ensures that the transistors will sound good in temperatures ranging from freezing to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Stonk Box is inspired by vintage germanium fuzz pedals like the Maestro FZ-1, Tone Bender MK-1, and the Zonk Machine and features similar controls: level for volume, attack for setting the filter, a broadly voiced tone control, and an added input trim for easier low-gain operation.

"This type of fuzz is ideal for thermal bias," says designer Christopher Benson. "It is probably the hardest of the vintage fuzzes to build due to the primitive way the transistors are biased, but our technology easily tames the wild bias swings of the original. It’s probably my favorite of the classic fuzzes due to its aggressive and raw character that can be tamed with the flick of the guitar volume knob."

Similar to Benson's Germanium Fuzz pedal, the Stonk Box will take a few minutes to warm up after being plugged in and features the same LED that switches from amber to green when the pedal is ready to play and then toggles back and forth every 30 seconds to indicate a working heater circuit.

The new Benson Amps Stonk Box is available now on Reverb for $279 USD.
