Australia's Bondi Effects is the sort of pedal maker that overdrive fanatics pay attention to.
Their Sick As Overdrive gave players a nuanced and refined transparent circuit that quickly earned it a spot as one of the most popular boutique pedals on Reverb. The Del Mar came next and met similar acclaim, boasting a more classic Tube Screamer-tinged circuit with a little more color, yet just as much tonal depth.
Today, Bondi is announcing the next entry in their overdrive-ography: the Breakers, a name that derives from the word Bondi itself, which is aboriginal for "the sound of waves breaking on the rocks."
According to Jon Ashley at Bondi, the Breakers began as a revision to the Del Mar before taking on a life of its own. At root, this pedal combines clean boost and overdrive circuits, with the ability to blend the two. The power input is internally boosted to 18 volts for added headroom, with a nifty toggle switch that adjusts the character of the drive.
