Those who have been keeping up with Source Audio's newest pedal project on the brand's website or The Gear Page will be stoked to learn that, after months of teasing, the new C4 Synth pedal is finally available.
The pedal is the brainchild of Source Audio's Chief Sound Engineer, Bob Chidlaw, whose personal Eurorack modular synth rig inspired him to create this "modular synth in a box."
Suited for both guitar and bass, the C4 Synth features a clean, four-knob control interface—Input, Mix, Conrol 1, and Control 2—and a three-way toggle for switching between three types of guitar/bass synthesizers.
Players looking for more fine-tuned sonic customization can connect the pedal to the Neuro Desktop Editor or Neuro Mobile App to create their own synth tones from the C4's collection of four parallel voices, three oscillator wave shapes, over 20 modulating filters, 10-plus envelopes, programmable sequencing, and effects like distortion, pitch-shifting, tremolo, and harmonization.
For those who'd rather reap the benefits of someone else's sculpting, that's easy too—just choose one of the countless presets created by Source Audio and/or your fellow C4 Synth users.
According to Source Audio, the signal path starts with four voice blocks: "Select from any of the following Voice Types: Dry Signal, Monophonic Pitch Shifting, Polyphonic Pitch Shifting, and three types of Synth Oscillator Wave Shapes (including Sine, Square, and Saw). In these blocks you will also be able to select voice level, stereo panning, distortion/fuzz engage, filter engage, pitch modulation, and detuning amount. "
From there, you can choose between myriad distortion types, including "Soft Clipping, Foldback, and Gated Fuzz," followed by the previously mentioned 20+ filter options.
