Lord Huron's fans will know them best from albums like 2015's Strange Trails, and 2018's Vide Noir, but given the band's impressive roster of song placements in television shows like Shameless, Community, and Girls, even casual listeners will recognize songs like "End of the Earth" and "The Night We Met."
The indie rockers, led by songwriter and producer Ben Schneider, have taken that success to outfit their truly impressive Whispering Pines Studios—a multi-room studio tucked away in a quiet courtyard somewhere in Los Angeles. Lord Huron has recently taken the step to clear some space and will be listing dozens of vintage and offbeat guitars, effects, and recording equipment in The Official Lord Huron Reverb Shop next Wednesday, January 29.
Since the more directly folk-inspired work of their 2012 debut Lonesome Dreams, the band has expanded their sound into a broader, lush indie rock that references decades of pop songcraft. Many of the guitars, preamps, and other gear featured in the sale have been used throughout this journey of sonic experimentation, including the recording of Strange Trails and Vide Noir and on subsequent tours.
One guitar—a custom hand-painted Martin 000CXE—has been used by Ben from the earliest days of the band, including their 2012 NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Others, like the hollowbody 1972 Gretsch Viking—owned and used by guitarist Tom Renaud—was used to great effect on the Vide Noir song "Moonbeam," while a beautiful 1975 Guild Starfire IV played by Renaud on that album's tour will also be for sale.
A parlor-sized Airline acoustic to be featured in the shop was responsible for the slide guitar solo on Strange Trails' "Until the Night Turns" and later used by Ben as a prop in the "Wait by the River" music video.
Pieces that have seen long-term use at Whispering Pines include eight Warm Audio WA12 500 Series mic preamps and an Antelope Orion 32 digital-audio converter.
Some select items—including concert posters, a Roland SPD-S sampling pad played by drummer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Barry on numerous tours and early gigs, and a Danelectro DC '59 Reissue played live by Ben and used by Tom and Miguel on several tracks of Vide Noir—will have 100% of their proceeds donated to WIRES Wildlife Rescue's bushfire relief efforts in Australia.
