Korg Has Acquired Aguilar Amplification

Hot on the heels of this week's Gibson and Mesa/Boogie news comes another acquisition announcement: Korg USA has acquired Aguilar Amplification (newly renamed Aguilar Musical Instruments).

Aguilar is most celebrated for making high-quality bass amps and excellent effects. It will be joining Korg's family of amp brands that already includes Vox and Blackstar, and as with those brands, Aguilar will operate as a separate company under Korg.

Korg USA CEO Joe Castronovo praised Aguilar and the acquisition, saying "For 25 years, the Aguilar name has been synonymous with quality. We will continue to maintain that reputation and look forward to our future collaborations." He said that Korg was excited to have added Aguilar to its portfolio and that it's "an excellent way to kick off 2021."

Dave Boonshoft—Aguilar's co-founder, who will continue to lead product development as a consultant—also called the move an important one for Aguilar's progress, saying that it was something that will "help us take the brand to the next level."

He continued, "This presents an opportunity to work with a world-class team focused on improving our capabilities and growing our business." Otherwise, it's uninterrupted business as usual at Aguilar Musical Instruments, with the company retaining its current existing staff, which also includes managing director Dave Avenius.
