Video: JHS' PackRat vs. a Pack of Vintage Rats

Hands down, one of the most popular and beloved pedal models from the initial effects boom of the 1970s is the ProCo Rat. Over the decades, it's been developed, iterated on, and oft-imitated by countless big and boutique brands alike. And yet, pedal builders remain enthralled by this gritty circuit still today.

The newest homage comes from our friend Josh Scott at JHS and is called the PackRat. Developed over the course of nine years, this new stompbox features an apt "nine delicious servings of Rat," Josh says, "divided into two luscious courses."

Inspired by the trajectory of the ProCo Rat, each mode models a specific circuit from the pedal's long history of installments. So, we here at Reverb decided that we really wanted to put the new PackRat to the test and have collected a slew of vintage Rats to compare it to directly.
