Fender's New Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang Is Officially Released

Whether you want to revive '90s rock or just want a unique and easy-to-play offset, the Jag-Stang might be the guitar you need.

Fender's Jaguar and Mustang were two of Kurt Cobain's favorites, so much so that when he and Fender set out to create a signature model, the Nirvana leader thought the two offsets should be combined. He cut two Polaroid photos of one of his Jaguars and one of his Mustangs, taped them together, and sent it to Fender.

The resulting Jag-Stang went from those Custom Shop origins to a Made-in-Japan model, which Fender stopped making in 2004. Now, following the 30th anniversary of Nevermind, Fender has reissued the Kurt Cobain Signature Jag-Stang once again.

As we wrote from July's Summer NAMM convention: "The Jag-Stang follows Cobain's 1993 spec sheet, featuring a Mustang-style 24-inch maple neck with a 7.25-inch radius and rosewood fingerboard married to an alder body that shares characteristics with both the Jag and Stang. A vintage-style single-coil is packed in the neck, with a custom humbucking pickup in the bridge."

Fender's "History In a Hot Minute: The Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang"

Like the student-model Mustang, the shorter scale and round neck will make the Jag-Stang feel comfortable in the hands of smaller players. Available in Fiesta Red or Sonic Blue finishes, and in right- or left-handed models, the new Kurt Cobain Signature Jag-Stang is available now for $,1249.99 USD.
