If you're a fan of Andy Martin, Tone Report, and Reverb, you likely appreciate all of the insights you can glean from his demos of the latest and greatest effects pedals. But sometimes, it's nice to acknowledge a tried-and-true classic and show what a great vintage pedal is capable of, even decades after its release.
In today's "Andy's Vintage Picks" video, he features a 1983 Boss BF-2 Flanger—"one of my favorite low-budget analog flangers that you can still find all day on Reverb for under 150 bucks." It offers a "classic jet plane swoosh" as well as "subtle chorus tones," Andy says.
While the pedal featured in the demo above is a Made-in-Japan unit from 1983 that requires a 12V ACA adapter (as opposed to the standard 9V), newer models of the BF-2 are also available on Reverb.
Adjusting the Resonance knob will allow you to choose from exaggerated sweeps to a dialed-back chorus, while the Manual control adjusts the delay time—which can change the pitch or wetness of the effected sound.
