A Paul McCartney-Signed Violin Bass | Find of the Week

Maybe you're amazed by this week's Find of the Week: it's a 1965 Höfner 500/1 "Violin" Bass that was signed by Sir Paul McCartney, the man who undoubtedly made the bass guitar model famous.

This is a 1965 Höfner 500/1

This oft-titled "Beatle Bass" was formerly owned by Spanish musician Jose Luis Precioso, who had Paul sign three separate basses during the Barcelona stop of his "New World Tour" in 1993 according to a statement shared by the seller. Though the original Höfner headquarters is located in Germany, this instrument was actually built in their secondary factory in the Basque Country in Spain—it has "Fabrica en Espana / A-20-01536" stamped in white on the back of the body.

The bass is near-mint and all-original with a lightweight maple body and a rosewood 20-fret fretboard, and Paul's signature appears on the top of the body between the single-coil pickups in black ink. With an asking price of $24,500, this bass is a no-brainer for any Beatles fanatic: be sure to check out the full listing for more photos and information, and buy this museum piece today.
