This option doesn't cover customers abroad EU.The Rupert Neve Designs 542 is a single-slot, mono 500 Series tape emulator that brings the thick, musical colouration of analog tape to your digital recordings. As a 500-series follow-up to the popular Portico 5042, the 542 delivers the same thick, musical simulation of tape while drastically enhancing creative control via a number of new features. Unlike plug-in emulations, it uses genuine "true tape" circuitry — a small magnetic "record head" coupled with a correctly equalised replay amplifier — that works the same way as real tape: as the voltage rises on the record head, saturation increases. It's the ideal companion to a digital setup, helping breathe life into and round the harshness often associated with digital audio.Key elements of its design:"True Tape" Circuitry The 542 uses a custom-designed interstage transformer acting as a "record head," coupled to a correctly-equalized replay amplifier. This hardware emulation works exactly like true tape — as the voltage increases on the record head, so does the saturation — and is great for bringing out the 3rd-order harmonics, rounding, and compression associated with the sound of tape.15 / 30 IPS Selectable Modes Flip between the "head bump" of 15 IPS and 30 IPS for different bass response, tailoring the low-frequency character of the tape sound to the source.Soft-Clip Circuit In addition to the tape circuit, the 542 incorporates a soft-clip circuit that engages at higher levels to round off peak transients and enhance 2nd-order harmonics — perfect for taming the harshest sources.Variable Silk Red & Blue with Texture The 542 includes the variable Silk & Texture circuitry from the Portico II series, offering three transformer tones in one. Silk Red accentuates transformer saturation in the high and high-mid frequencies to heighten the range associated with Rupert's vintage equipment, while Silk Blue accentuates saturation of the lows and low-mids to add thickness and weight to any source.Wet/Dry Blend Control A pre/post-tape Blend control lets you dial in exacting amounts of saturation, blending dry and saturated signal for anything from subtle analog glue to overt tape character.Input Trim & Gain Staging A ±12 dB trim adjusts the incoming signal level before it reaches the tape circuit, giving precise control over how hard the emulation is driven.Artists and engineers are effusive about it.
