Moving Coil Cartridge for TD 124 DD, special version of the famous Ortofon SPU
The THORENS/Ortofon SPU 124 is a special version of the legendary Ortofon SPU sound box, which is designed for optimal scanning behaviour in combination with the THORENS TD 124 DD drive and the newly developed TP 124 tonearm.
The generator, i.e. the “motor” of the pick-up, has been completely revised and the output voltage has been increased to 0.5mV (5cm/sec). This measure reduces the subsequent amplification of the signal and reduces interference. A highly polished, mass-reduced “naked diamond” with an elliptical cut increases the pickup’s scanning ability.
The SPU 124 modernizes the classic SPU design with several optimizations designed for optimum compatibility to the new Thorens TD 124 DD.
The SPU 124 features a revised generator system which allows for a maximum output of 0.5 mV, relaxing the requirement for high gain transformer or active preamplification systems.
While still making use of a highly polished Nude Elliptical stylus, the stylus tip mass has been reduced significantly, resulting in reduced VTF and higher tracking ability.
