A freshly overhauled YAMAHA limited-edition Custom Bb Clarinet — now is the time to grab it.

[Overview]
YAMAHA Bb Clarinet Custom Series, SE Shimokura Original limited-production model. Grenadilla body. Silver-plated keys. One barrel (645). Left-hand Eb/Ab lever key added, right-hand pinky Eb/Ab and C/F keys fitted with rollers. Manufactured in the late 1990s. Included accessories: third-party hard case (for Crampon Festival).

[Condition]
The gold-tone maker's logo on the barrel and body has faded. No damage to the plating and no crack repair history on the body. A light handling mark on the underside of the lower joint. Otherwise, minor handling marks and light polishing wear scattered across the keys. Fully overhauled with all new pads and corks.
*The included barrel is a 645, so the pitch runs on the high side; depending on how and when you play, you may need to pull the barrel out roughly 1.5-2mm.

[Features]
Built on the base of the YAMAHA Custom SE series Bb clarinet, the YCL-853II, this is a Shimokura Gakki original limited-production model. A left-hand Eb/Ab lever key has been added, and rollers are fitted to the right-hand pinky Eb/Ab key and the C/F key — a practical special specification designed to smooth out complex fingerings and pinky movement.

The SE series' appeal lies in a response that naturally receives the breath and a soft resonance that wraps around the player. Tone stays even from high to low register, giving a composed character as a solo instrument and blending naturally into an ensemble. It's not a model built to compete on flashy individuality, but a solid instrument with the stability and manageability you'd expect from a YAMAHA Custom.

Because the included 645 barrel runs the pitch a little high, you'll need to pull it out by about 1.5-2mm depending on your playing environment and setup. Adding a barrel of a better-matched length is also a valid option if you want a more stable setup — and even factoring in that extra cost, it's still an attractive deal compared to the price of a current-production model.
