This is a scarce 1986 G&L SC-3 Type II with a slab body, one of only a handful produced that year. Serial number G020002 (the second guitar in a new serial block). Built in Leo Fender’s final company, G&L, at the historic Fullerton, California factory on Fender Avenue. Neck dated November 1986, body dated December 1986. All-original electronics and hardware (minus the volume and tone knobs, no vibrato arm). Original MFD pickups (three round-bobbin), original pots, switch, and wiring, never tampered with. Equipped with the G&L Dual Fulcrum tremolo system, ebony fretboard, and G&L closed-back tuning machines. The guitar shows honest, natural play wear on the body and neck, exactly what you want on a real player’s instrument from 1986. It has not been relic’d this is real played age from 40 years. Frets are in very good shape with plenty of life left. This is a guitar that has been played and enjoyed, not hidden away in a case. Why this one stands out: 1986 examples are significantly rarer than the 1987–1991 SC-3s. In 1987 the body shape changed to a more Strat-like contour with arm and belly cuts plus a pickguard. This earlier slab-body version is smaller, extremely comfortable, and has that classic S-style feel without the extra contours. Production history: SC-3s were made 1981–1984, skipped 1985 entirely, and only a small run appeared in late 1986/early 1987 before the redesign. If you know G&L history, you understand how special these early Leo Fender era Fullerton instruments are.
