Features: Microphone ports in each chamber - sounds amazing with mic amplification! Mics will increase the tonal possibilities and are great for live performances and recording sessions.
LP Mbwata was developed by Frank Giorgini and percussionist Jamey Haddad.
Playing Technique: The Mbwata udu can be played on the two holes of the drum or on the shell itself. When playing on the holes simply provide the rhythm and the mbwata will provide the mellow tones. In addition to playing the holes, slapping the clay shell will give a strong percussive effect. It will produce an obvious slap sound as well as resonating pinging sounds.
The word "Udu" comes from the Nigerian Ibo language and means "pottery". The simple, but solid clay construction is based upon centuries-old African traditions. Udus reveal the close relationship between pottery & musical instruments.
