The Summit Audio TLA-50 is a hand-crafted, single-channel soft-knee optical tube leveling amplifier (compressor) designed to add analog warmth and musical dynamic control to audio tracks.

Key Features and DesignSimple Controls: Features only two main continuously variable knobs (gain and gain reduction). Switchable Timing: Includes 3-position toggle switches for fast, medium, or slow attack and release settings. Hybrid Circuitry: Utilizes an optical (vactrol) cell for smooth compression paired with a vacuum tube output stage for sonic character. Flexible Interfacing: Equipped with automatic level matching for both +4 dBu XLR and -10 dBV 1/4-inch inputs and outputs. Advanced Options: Includes side-chain access and the ability to link two units together for phase-accurate stereo operation."

These units were both utilized very sparingly but they were utilized by some of the top tier musicians out of Los Angeles in the mid to late 1980's until the early 2000's.
