It is essentially the rack version of the SY55 keyboard.
The unit is often used for pads, bass, and classic 90s digital tones, similar to the Roland U-220.

The Yamaha TG55 is a 1U rack-mount, 16-bit sample-playback synthesizer module released around 1990, featuring 16-voice polyphony and 16-part multitimbrality.
It utilizes Advanced Wave Memory (AWM2) synthesis, offering 2MB of ROM with 74 waveforms (acoustic, drum, and digital) and includes digital resonant filters.
