Review & Overview
The PR-40 is widely considered by organ purists to be the best-sounding static cabinet Hammond ever produced. Because it was designed as an open-back, stationary speaker cabinet, its deep-end bass response actually surpasses that of many classic spinning Leslies, making it an excellent pairing for full-pedal work.
Sound Profile: Features independently controllable bass and treble reverb channels. The tri-amp design separates the audio spectrum, giving you rich, booming lows and crisp, articulate highs. The "Leslie" Factor: While most contemporary players favor the swirling modulation of a Leslie 122, many players use a PR-40 in tandem with a Leslie. This gives you the best of both worlds: the spacious room reverb and heavy low-end of the PR-40 combined with the signature Leslie chorusing effect.Studio Utility: Because of its isolated speaker array and discrete controls, the PR-40 is highly prized for studio recording, where engineers can independently mic the bass and treble cones.
Value
Market Value: The PR-40 is typically valued between $150 to $400 in un-restored or "as-is" condition. Fully restored models in pristine cosmetic and operational condition are listed between $800 to $1,200.
