Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.
You are looking at a very nice 1960's / 70's era Shure Brothers PE585V model dynamic cardioid microphone with the adjustable volume knob, short mic cable, mic clip and new exterior black foam pop filter. This PE585V is set at high impedance. This was basically a more sophisticated version of the common Shure 585SA model due to it's built in volume control knob.
Pic # 2 shows a pic of this very model from an old 1970's Shure catalog. This happened to be a favorite model to use for James Cotton back in the day while performing live and this mic is often referred to as "The James Cotton Mic" because of that.
Pic # 4 shows the new exterior black foam pop filter made by Auray brand that fits this mic like a glove.
The volume knob on these older mics usually don't work very well from my personal due to years of use from experience but I take the time to disassemble them and clean them out. This one works perfectly again as it should. You'll notice that the volume does come on quickly at about the half way point but the signal strength is consistent and that is exactly how the mic was designed to work.
This microphone is great for vocals and general broadcasting but can even used as a great harp microphone with it's High impedance setting. I find it has more of a mid range tone. The tone is actually on the dirtier side due to the Hi Z setting which some musicians and harp players like. I'm including the new black Auray brand pop filter. You'll notice that it actually cleans the tone of the mic up a bit making it less dirty in nature so you can experiment to see what type of tone you prefer with the pop filter. It looks great on the mic and fits like a glove.
The satin chrome finish shows zero signs of wear as seen in the pics provided. They just don't come much nicer than this. The satin chrome has a very nice luster with zero loss of chrome from years of handling. The Shure logo that encircles the globe looks pretty good with lite wear but completely legible. The actual chrome globe is free of any tarnish or dents and I added a thin foam liner to the inside of the globe as the old one had completely fell apart. This helps greatly with the sound characteristics. The new foam will cut down on any unwanted "pops" you get when breathing close or in windy conditions.
The PE585V comes with a short 6 foot Amphenol cable that's in great usable condition and comes with a male Switchcraft XLR end connector so that you can use this on almost all audio equipment. If you need extra length simply attach any longer XLR cable to the existing one provided. Cable is soft, pliable and free of any issues.
The mic clip is a newer Shure A-25 model and it works excellent for this mic giving the user a wide degree of tilt up and down and hold the mic tightly. The clip shows just very lite wear and it will screw onto any desk or floor stand you use.
This mic is ready to go!
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
Overall I would rate this mic an 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department but I would recommend actually using this piece rather than for display. She's got plenty of life left in her. Made right here in America and built to last!
