Built by Retrovox Vintage Audio, this custom passive guitar extension cabinet combines a vintage Soundesign 620 acoustic-suspension speaker enclosure with a carefully selected 1973 Utah 8-inch American-made speaker. The result is a warm, responsive vintage cabinet with smooth mids, balanced highs, natural paper-cone compression, and excellent articulation for low-powered guitar amplifiers.

The cabinet retains its original walnut-look finish and original cabinet construction while receiving new vintage-style grille cloth for a clean, period-correct appearance. A standard 1/4-inch mono speaker input provides reliable compatibility with modern guitar amplifiers.

The original OEM speaker was evaluated during testing but ultimately replaced after comparison with several vintage American drivers. The installed Utah speaker proved to be the strongest overall match, producing fuller mids, smoother breakup, tighter bass, and a more musical response while preserving the lively character of the sealed enclosure.

The Utah driver carries EIA code 328346, identifying it as an original Utah-built American speaker manufactured during the 46th week of 1973. Vintage Utah speakers are known for their balanced frequency response, smooth paper-cone character, and natural compression that pairs exceptionally well with blues, classic rock, garage rock, indie, harmonica, and recording applications.

During evaluation, this cabinet delivered a warm, balanced voice with controlled bass, smooth highs, and excellent note definition. The sealed enclosure keeps the low end tight while allowing the Utah speaker to produce natural vintage dynamics that work equally well with clean tones, edge-of-breakup sounds, overdrive, and fuzz.
