The JHS Pedals 3 Series Oil Can Delay is a compact effects pedal that replicates the dark, warbly, and lo-fi echo textures of rare 1960s electrostatic oil can delay units. Originally inspired by a unique request from Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, this pedal captures the highly sought-after, watery sound signature without the high maintenance and mechanical breakdowns associated with vintage hardware.
Features & Controls
The pedal utilizes a straightforward 3-knob layout paired with a utility toggle switch to customize your echo:
- Condition: Mint (2 small strips of velcro on bottom but label is visable)
- Mix: Balances the ratio between your dry guitar signal and the delay repeats.
- Speed: Sets the delay time, ranging from a tight 100ms to 330ms.
- Feedback: Controls the number of echo repeats, moving from a subtle slapback to dense, self-oscillating washes of sound.
- Toggle (+/-): Adjusts the modulation intensity. The down position (-) gives a light movement, while the up position (+) introduces a heavy, warbling vibrato texture. Note: The speed of this modulation automatically links to your delay time (shorter delays equal faster warble) to mimic real mechanical oil cans.
Technical Specifications
- Power Requirement: 9V DC negative center power (draws roughly 65mA); a power supply is not included.
- Bypass Type: True Bypass switching to preserve your clean signal when off.
- Enclosure: Standard durable metal housing measuring 4.42" x 2.38" x 1.22"
