The dbx 3BX is a legendary, vintage three-band dynamic range expander designed to restore the dynamic impact lost in heavily compressed audio recordings (such as vinyl records or cassette tapes). It splits audio into low, mid, and high bands, dynamically making loud sounds louder and soft sounds quieter, delivering up to a 50% (1.5x) increase in dynamic range.

This dbx unit is in fantastic condition. Works like new, looks great, A little side panel damage (see pics). Usual age related scratches/scuffsCore Features and Specifications

  • 3-Band Processing: By dividing the frequency spectrum, the 3BX prevents "pumping and breathing" artifacts—a common issue in single-band expanders where the entire track's volume fluctuates based on a loud bass note.
  • Expansion Ratio Control: Continuously adjustable from 1.0 (no expansion) to 1.5.
  • Transition Lineage: The 3BX saw several revisions throughout the 1970s and 80s (Series II, Series III, and the DS version). Later models and "Impact Restoration" circuits were added to improve transient recovery
