Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a classic 1970's / 80's era AKG model D1000M based on the more common and popular D1000E dynamic cardioid microphone made in Austria with outstanding sound characteristics and easily on par with any great dynamic microphone you could possibly think of from that timeline. If you have never heard one of these before...you'll be pleasantly surprised. These D1000M models have a warm, smooth adjustable tone that is excellent for singing and broadcasting. Sounds very nice on guitar cabs, snare and horns as well. Quite exceptional and the signal is very strong. This mic comes with an AKG mic clip shown.
For years I was confused about the D1000M model because I always thought there was something wrong with the bass drop off switches but I now understand that this is normal. The D1000M was probably the last model in the D1000 series because the D1000E looks identical but it has 3 settings on the bass drop off switch that's built into the handle. The D1000M is everything that the D1000E is (same element too) but the D1000M has a bass drop off switch with just two settings. High, low and an off position if you don't want the mic live. It's actually a far more practical set up on the D1000M model mic.
So there it is. I feel like this was the last mic offered by AKG before they killed the D1000 series of and this "M" model was probably only sold for a couple years because I have only ever seen / sold 3 of these over the past 15 years. This is the first example I have had in in over 6 years and it's a real beauty too. far better looking than what few you'll see listed.
The AKG mics were almost always very high quality and known for their durability and superb sound. This mic was manufactured in Austria with excellent quality control. The mic has a little weight to it despite being a smaller stick mic. It's appx 6 inches long X 1 1/2 inches wide at the front grill. The metal body has a beautiful champagne gold color scheme that adds bling factor.
Pic # 2 is from an old 1980's AKG catalog showing the D1000E along with a couple other AKG mics from that era.
Pic # 3 shows Debbi Harry using one of these quality D1000 series mics on stage mics while performing live.
Pic # 4 shows Robert Plant from led Zeppelin using these D1000 series mics as well.
As you can see there is almost no wear on the gold finish of this mic. It's free of any dents, deep scratches, corrosion, or fractures. Just lite scuff marks. The front screen is metal and has an uber modern / contemporary look. Free of tarnish, dents or odors. I replaced the inner foam pop filter as it was falling apart. The new pop filter greatly improve sound characteristics but if you want ideal sound I would suggest buying a new exterior foam pop filter. Those seem to help a lot more than the inner pop filters but the mic sounds exceptional as is. The black plastic is in very nice condition and this mic comes with a bass roll off switch on the handle as seen in pic # 10. You can get more or less bass depending on your needs with the flick of a switch and again, you can turn the mic off in the far right setting. The switch is in perfect working order with 3 settings.
The mic is uni-directional and is great at cancelling out any background noise. Again...a superb mic for any live performance and worth every penny.
The mic comes with an AKG style model mic clip that will screw onto any desk or floor stand as well. The mic clip shows no wear and provides the mic with a wide degree of tilt up and down.
Mic takes a standard XLR cable which is not included.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
Overall I would rate this mic an easy 9 on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department but many would rate higher. She's got decades of life left in her. If you want a classic AKG mic that few others have with great sound then this will do you justice. This mic will only go up in value due to rarity and quality build.
