The Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe 5-String with a John East J-Retro preamp and Aguilar pickups is essentially a modified/upgraded Fender Jazz Bass V. The Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe/American Deluxe line was Fender's higher-end active Jazz Bass series, with five-string versions available.

Sound

This combination gives you much more tonal flexibility than a stock Deluxe Jazz Bass. The Aguilar pickups provide a strong, articulate fundamental, while the John East preamp allows you to significantly shape the frequency response. You can get everything from a relatively traditional, punchy Jazz Bass sound to a much more aggressive, deep and modern active-bass tone.
