Restored and Modernized 1998 DW 13x5 Cast Bronze Snare

Up for sale is a 1998 DW Collector's Series 13" x 5" Cast Bronze Snare Drum. This is one of the early DW cast bronze models featuring the highly sought-after 13x5 shell.

I purchased this drum in rough cosmetic condition after it had spent years in a very humid environment. The original hardware had extensive corrosion and pitting, so I completely disassembled the drum and restored the shell while replacing the hardware with genuine DW components where appropriate.

The cast bronze shell was carefully cleaned, then hand wet-sanded through multiple grits to restore the factory-style satin bronze appearance while preserving the character of the shell. The shell has not been mirror polished and retains a beautiful brushed finish.

The drum has been reassembled with:

Genuine DW chrome lugs

S-hoop on the batter side

Die-cast snare-side hoop

Replacement DW Collector's badge

Original DW butt plate (retained because modern replacements do not share the same mounting footprint)

The shell is structurally excellent with no extra holes or modifications. It tunes easily and sounds exactly like you'd expect from an early DW cast bronze snare—powerful, articulate, and extremely sensitive.

This drum is best described as a restored instrument, not an all-original collector's piece.

Original hardware was replaced due to severe corrosion from long-term humidity exposure.

The shell has been restored and displays a satin brushed finish.

The interior of the shell shows some cosmetic oxidation/pitting from its previous life, but this does not affect structural integrity, tuning, or sound.

There are normal light scratches from restoration and handling that can be seen under direct lighting.

The original butt plate has been retained.

Bearing edges are original and in excellent condition.
