This 1988 Fender American Standard Stratocaster features an alder body with a Torino Red finish and 2-Point American Standard Tremolo, a maple neck with a “C” profile, synthetic bone nut, and Fender standard tuners, a maple fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, a 9.5” radius, and dot inlays, and it comes with the stock American Standard pickups with a reverse-wound middle pickup and TBX tone control featuring two stacked potentiometers. Basically, appears to be stock.
Though it has an E4 serial number, most often meaning it would be a 1984, it’s a 1988. The swimming pool route would be the first indicator, but also the pickguard has the date 2-23-1988. That with other factors makes it obvious it’s a 1988, not a 1984.
This guitar very much shows the signs of a well loved and often played guitar, yet also has been taken care of. I see a small ding on the headstock and a tiny one on the back of the body, some play scratches, and a little finish chipping at the bottom strap button. Pretty close to Excellent in the condition category, but I’m going with Very Good. Frets have slight pitting but there are no dead notes, no choking out.
Admittedly I gravitate towards boutique stuff and partscasters. As well as Nash and TMG and so on. Point is, I like when something is special and I am happy to report this feels and looks special. Normally I don’t pay much mind to production model stuff, but a winner is a winner.
Has been cleaned up, frets polished, fretboard cleaned, new strings. D’addario 10-46. Comes with what appears to be the original Hardcase.
My tools/scale clock everything at
1st fret neck depth .86”
12th fret depth .88
1st fret width 1.68”
12th fret width 2.01”
8 Lbs 1 oz.
