Fully Restored Ensoniq EPS-16 Plus Digital Sampling Workstation
Up for sale is a meticulously restored, classic 16-bit Ensoniq EPS-16 Plus keyboard. I have restored and safely shipped hundreds of vintage keyboards over the years. This unit has been thoroughly overhauled, tested, and upgraded for modern workflows.
Mechanical & Electronic Restoration
- Deep Cleaned: Completely detailed inside and out.
- Circuit Board Reflow: Re-soldered known failure points across all internal boards to prevent future issues.
- Power Supply Verified: All voltage rails tested and verified within factory specifications per the official service manual.
- New Controls: Brand new Volume and Data slider potentiometers installed.
- Tact Switches Serviced: All buttons cleaned with DeoxIT; two faulty switches replaced due to failing membranes.
- Keybed & Aftertouch: Coil boards fully inspected and cleaned; polyphonic aftertouch functions flawlessly.
Chassis Cosmetic Refinishing
- Fresh Paint: The outer chassis top and sides were sanded smooth and refinished with two coats of high-quality Rust-Oleum 2X UltraCover Paint+Primer to cover deep original blemishes.
- Rear Port Labels: The original rear silk-screen labels were worn off and are no longer visible. A physical print-out diagram of the rear port layout is included so you can easily reference or create your own labels.
USB Floppy Emulator Upgrade
- Hardware: Brand new USB drive emulator installed featuring a crisp OLED display and a rotary push-button encoder for easy folder navigation.
- Firmware: Flashed with the latest FlashFloppy firmware (reads both .IMG and .HFE disk images).
- Included Storage: Loaded 32GB SanDisk low-profile USB drive containing a ~4.5 GB personal sample library collected over years, plus useful utility tools.
- Sample Libraries: Includes images for EPS (Classic/16), ASR-10, and Mirage.
- Note: This unit contains the standard 1MB of memory. Because the ASR-10 has larger memory limits, some included ASR-10 samples may not load. You can easily upgrade memory via the rear expansion slot at your own risk without opening the chassis.
Rigorous Testing & Functionality
The unit was soak-tested by being left powered on for several hours across three separate days. I successfully recorded a custom sequence using empty disk images on the USB drive. 100% functional coverage verified for:
- All tact switches, keys, and patch select buttons
- Pitch and mod wheels
- Volume and data sliders
- Sampling, sequencing, loading, and saving functions
- MIDI In/Out
- Headphone, main audio outputs, and sustain pedal inputs
- Polyphonic aftertouch
