Up for sale is a vintage Masco MA-17N tube amplifier, serial number A172425, believed to have been manufactured sometime between 1948 and 1952.

I originally purchased this amp with the intention of restoring and possibly modifying it into a guitar amplifier, but I've accumulated more projects than I'll realistically get to, so it's time for someone else to enjoy it.

Condition

Cosmetically, the amplifier is in very nice condition for a piece that's over 70 years old, with no visible rust on the chasis. It appears to be largely original, with the exception of several capacitors that were replaced many years ago. The work appears neat and professionally done. It includes a mix of vintage RCA and General Electric tubes.

Please Note

  • The amplifier is being sold as UNTESTED.
  • The original grounded power cord is frayed, and for safety reasons I have not attempted to power it on.
  • When I purchased it, the previous owner had it inspected by an experienced audio repair technician, who reported that the amplifier appeared complete and showed evidence of having been professionally serviced at some point in its life. I have not independently verified that assessment and am representing the amp strictly as an untested vintage project.

These classic Masco amplifiers have developed a loyal following among harmonica players, guitarists, and amp builders for their excellent transformers, rugged construction, and the outstanding custom amplifiers that can be built from them. Whether you're looking for a restoration candidate, a platform for a custom conversion, or simply a unique piece of American audio history, this MA-17N is an excellent starting point.

Please examine the photos carefully, as they are part of the description. Given its age and untested condition, the amplifier is being sold as-is, with no guarantees regarding functionality.
