SOUND CHARACTERISTICS

The ME 80 is renowned for its remarkably natural shotgun character. Unlike many modern interference-tube microphones, it maintains a smooth and musical frequency response while providing excellent off-axis rejection and outstanding speech intelligibility.

The beautifully controlled low-frequency response keeps unwanted rumble to a minimum without sacrificing warmth, while the extended high end captures fine detail without sounding harsh. These microphones excel on dialogue, orchestral spot microphones, acoustic instruments, ambience recording and film production where precise directionality is required.

POWER

The K3N can operate from 48 V phantom power

 or from its original internal battery system.

Originally, Sennheiser designed the microphone around an unusual 5.6 V battery format that has become difficult and expensive to source today.

To solve this, I and others have designed custom battery adapters that allows the microphone to operate using inexpensive modern batteries available almost anywhere in the world. The adapter preserves the original operating voltage while making future battery replacement simple and affordable.
