This is really Cool. You are looking at a 2025 Eastman MD-514 Limited Edition Mandolin. This is a Limited Edition of 250 units that were built. The Gloss Black Finish is why it's the Limited Edition. The Eastman MD514 is a stunning example of the company’s commitment to handcrafted excellence, fusing classic F-style mandolin aesthetics with the warmth and resonance of an oval soundhole. Built for players who value both vintage tone and refined craftsmanship, this model is ideal for everything from classical and Celtic to folk and old-time music. The solid spruce top and solid maple back and sides offer articulate response and smooth sustain, while the oval hole adds warmth and roundness to each note — perfect for melodic playing and rich chord voicings.

An excellent choice, this MD514 BK begs to be played, with its gloss black bound Adirondack top and brown stained maple back, sides and neck. It has a oval soundhole with rosette, and bound rosewood fingerboard, with ivoroid binding throughout. Equipped with an ebony adjustable bridge, 4-on-a-plate tuners, and a cast aluminum tailpiece.

These are a ton of fun!  The round hole and 12 fret neck joint lends to a warm, deep, breathy tone.  This style of mandolin goes way back, and is perfect for a variety of styles and applications!

This one has it all folks, an old warm appearance and tone to match!  The first time I opened the case and laid eyes on this mandolin I was immediately impressed.  Then when I picked it up to play it I was even more impressed.  This mandolin plays effortlessly and produces a big airy and bassy tone.  The bass notes are thick and fat and the trebles are rounded and have a touch of natural reverb.  This one punches way above it’s class.
