Vintage 1964 Jensen C12R 12" Speaker – Pulled from Ampeg Reverberocket

Vintage Jensen C12R ceramic 12" speaker in excellent overall condition for its age. This speaker was pulled from a working 1964 Ampeg Reverberocket and sounded exactly as expected in that amp: classic vintage Jensen chime, warmth, and breakup.

The frame is stamped 220406, consistent with Jensen manufacture, 6th week of 1964. It also shows the model marking C12-R C7746. The cone, surround, frame, terminals, and magnet all present very well, with only a few minor finish scratches and handling marks from age and normal use.

I removed this speaker because I wanted to push the Reverberocket harder with pedals and get the full potential out of the amp, which is roughly an 18–20 watt circuit. To be safe, I replaced it with a new higher-wattage speaker.

As Ted Weber and other vintage speaker experts have advised, old speakers should generally be treated as having reduced power handling compared with their original rating due to age. A reasonable conservative approach is to treat vintage speakers at roughly 50% of original wattage handling for longevity. Your mileage may vary.

Great choice for someone restoring a vintage Ampeg, recording at reasonable volumes, or chasing that authentic vintage Jensen tone.
