Up for sale is this vintage 1974 Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. This is a cool one: dressed in tuxedo plastic, featuring the last of the staggered pole pickups, and all at a very attractive weight for the era at 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

This instrument is all original with the exception of the upgraded five-way switch, the tremolo cavity screws, one strap button screw, and the missing tremolo arm. While it's a bit early for tuxedo plastic, we see no evidence that suggests that this guitar has ever lived with a different pickguard or back plate. The instrument is loaded with the original grey bottom, staggered pole pickups all dating to early 1974 and pots ranging from the 50th week of 1973 to the 12th week of 1974.

Cosmetically, the instrument shows pretty heavy wear and it's clear that it was well-loved over the years. The original walnut finish shows heavy checking, numerous dings, scratches, and scuffs, and a decent amount of buckle wear. We have tried to capture the worst of this in the photos. The original tremolo cavity cover is cracked and missing a few pieces but it's cool just to have it present. The neck shows wear including dings and checking, as well as lacquer chipping around the original frets.

This one has just been gone over by our tech who cleaned it up, sprayed out the electronics, installed a fresh set of strings, and performed a set up. The original frets look to have been recently dressed and, while they're starting to get a bit low, they still retain plenty of life. The guitar plays nicely all the way up the neck with comfortable, low action. The neck is straight and the truss rod functions in both directions as it should.

A non-original tweed hardshell case will be included. The case does show wear and staining but is all there and structurally sound. The instrument will be well-packed inside and out to ensure safe shipping.

A very cool guitar with some great features and a good weight. We have no problem calling this one of the best playing and sounding examples of a mid-1970's Strat that we've seen in a long time. Don't miss out...
