Thirty conservatively rated watts from a quartet of EL-84s, through two channels—each with unique voicing and tone control layouts—produce a world of tonal choices. The true “Class A” configuration delivers rich, complex harmonics, whether played clean, mildly overdriven, or with full power tube saturation. The master volume on this amp is very effective. You can easily play at bedroom volumes at 30 or 15 watts and then crank it up for the stage.

The preamp sections are based on two 12AX7s in Channel 1 and one EF86 in Channel 2. The two 12AX7s in Channel 1 create a parallel-triode circuit with interactive bass and treble controls. The EF86 in Channel 2 consists of a high-gain pentode coupled to a six-position tone switch. The benefits include quick dialing of new tones and an easy return to your preferred settings.

I built the amp using premium German F+T electrolytic caps for the filtering. I added a fuse to the center tap of the power transformer to protect it if a power tube fails. I've added diodes to the rectifier tube to protect the PT from flyback voltages and potential damage if the rectifier tube fails. I've also tweaked the grounding scheme to isolate the noisy PT and reservoir cap from the rest of the circuit and isolated the sensitive V1 input ground to reduce the noise floor of the amp.

The EF86 is NOT microphonic -- channel 2 is a rocker. This sale includes a power cable and TRS cable for the effects loop.

The HC 30 amp in the video is NOT this amp. This amp is a clone of the HC 30.
