May Bell Slingerland 1930s Parlor Guitar

Welcome to Vintage Emporium! You're looking at a May Bell Slingerland 1930s Parlor Guitar. Made by Regal and distributed by Slingerland under the name May Bell in Chicago, this is a rare old guitar. This guitar is just a beautiful relic of time gone by. Sporting a lovely sunburst finish that has really sunken into the wood over the years, this guitar truly has a vibe about it. The neck on this guitar is a nice full C shape typical of acoustics of this time. Setup with a metal nut with high action for slide playing, this guitar has some serious tone. Features the original frets which aren't really a factor as this is a slide guitar. Although it doesn't play like a modern guitar, the sacrifice in playability for tone is worth it. Such a beautifully open and warm sounding instrument, this guitar would be perfect in a recording studio. I imagine it would sound magical behind any microphone. This guitar weighs 2 lbs. 11 oz. and is a feather. You pick it up in amazement as if you aren't even holding anything.

This guitar is in good condition cosmetically, but this guitar has issues that could certainly be addressed if a new owner wanted to. The bottom of neck joint is slightly separating. This is causing the action to be higher than normal. The body has some cracks. See photos for reference. Comes in non-original faux leather case.

Overall, this is a lovely old acoustic that will bring its next owner much joy. It's easy on the eyes and has a tone to die for. The weight of the instrument is truly something to marvel over. You rarely see guitars under 3 lbs so seeing one at 2 lbs. 11 oz. is fantastic. Grab it today and play it as is, or have some work done and restore it to its original glory. The choice is yours!
