The best thing about the Backbone is being able to hear what the various EQ's & compressors do to the sound of the music by quickly & simply pushing a button. You can stack things too.
ALSO another use: If you got studio rack gear you can hear the various compressors and EQ's combinations sound like while tracking or mixing a track with a simple button push. The Manley Backbone insert switcher works for mastering or for fast instant rack studio gear insert comparison. Say, you have an EQ or 3 in your rack and want to hear what the differences are affecting the track. You can choose which compressors are the best sounding too immediately. It's like having an instant patchbay. All it take is you pressing button or two. Quick & easy.
Great for vocal tracking! Quick!! No need to hookup a multitude of patch cables which can affect your singer's vibe by taking up time when he's/she's hot to sing!
We were able to quickly compare the difference between SSL, Manley, GML, & Neve hardware sound quality when used for mastering. I didn't know how great this would be until I used it in my mastering studio. Completely a necessity in mastering!!
There's plenty of Youtube videos complimenting this wonderful gizmo!
I've had it packed away in the box since late 2018 when my mastering lab & studios closed to a new landlord. I bought it in 2011. The unit has stayed idle due my declining health problems.
As you can see it was hooked up to a GML 9500 EQ, Manley Pultecs, & a quick button push choice between compressors : Manley Vari Mu , SSL G Series, Neve 33609, and GML 8900.
It's the ultimate in hand adjustable calibrated gain control and quick switching.
Included are Elco to XLR's using Mogami cables in a separate box.
You can run it mono or stereo.
Industrial build quality that'll last a long time! Built in California using the A+ parts. Manley gear is the best! EveAnna Manley has great company & is fantastic in the build quality and support. It's as good as you can get!
