The wrap and chrome are nearly flawless, the shell is in near-mint condition, and every moving part — strainer, butt plate, tension rods — works perfectly. All original throughout.

For the size of the drum, I always found its sensitivity remarkable.

The reason for the sale is straightforward: I'm not gigging as much, and the music I play doesn't call for a drum like this. It deserves to be played.

The drum does does have some pedigree: The inside of the shell has signatures I collected from DW endorsees at drum clinics over the years. They are:

• Carl Allen — jazz master, former Juilliard faculty
