Kandalaft Vintage Oud 1981

Very special vintage oud by the late legendary Syrian luthier Jameel Yorgaki Kandalaft. This piece of history is for collectors and serious oud lovers.

The maker was most famous for making one of Farid Al Atrash ouds.

This oud has an interesting story (told by the person who sold me the oud directly from Syria):

This oud belonged to the Kandalaft family and very lightly played. This oud is believed to be one of the very last ouds made by the late Jameel Kandalaft in 1981. Unfortunately, the oud was left in a case and never played. As a result, there was mites that started attacking the soundboard (see pictures)

The soundboard mites were eliminated and soundboard treated to save this oud. This was done in Syria.

The soundboard feels solid. No cracks noted. Upon inspection by a professional luthier here in the US, it was determined that the oud is stable, braces are stable and no issues with the oud. Pegbox is stable and solid. It does not need any repairs at this time.

The oud has a very unique feature that Kandalaft did only on very few of his most important ouds: An adjustable truss rod to adjust the action. See picture.

This oud has Pyramid Lute strings on and it sounds very Syrian, very sweet and mellow. This is good for someone looking to play traditional tarab music solo or in a small traditional takht ensemble.

As you can imagine, it was not easy to bring this oud all the way from Syria in the current situation. I got this oud from Syria last year from a Syrian oud collector.

Unfortunately I need to part with it because I do not have enough space and need to streamline my oud collection.

This is a great oppotunity to own a very unique and one of a kind Kandalaft ouds! You will never see a oud like this one.

Rosette: Hand carved Wood and BONE with the signature of Jameel Kandalaft in Arabic Calligraphy style.

Oud is 100% original. Nothing was changed or replaced.

There is a crack that was repaired at some point in the lower part of the back. See photo. It shows a black resin type that was used. This crack is stable.

Oud will be shipped via UPS or Fedex and professionally wrapped and shipped inside a rigid plastic oud case that has the oud shape. No soft case will be included. Only the hard case.
