Overview

The dbx 274 is a 4-channel expander/gate from the Project 1 series, designed for live sound, studio tracking, and install applications where controlling noise and tightening up signals is critical. Each of the four channels can operate independently or be linked for stereo operation, making it a versatile solution for drums, vocals, bass, and full mixes.

Unlike basic gates, the 274 offers both hard gating and downward expansion, giving you more natural control over dynamics and noise reduction. This makes it especially useful for cleaning up noisy signals without the abrupt cutoff you get from traditional gates.

The front panel provides full control over threshold, attack, release, and ratio/expansion characteristics, along with LED metering for signal and gain reduction. Sidechain inserts on each channel allow for more advanced processing techniques like frequency-dependent gating.
